Adding HTML tags to your posts
No tags are permitted in comments or titles. You can use HTML tags in custom bio fields and blog entries.

The following tags are permitted in your journal posts. More will be coming as we "secure" them from malicious use or casual coding errors.

A, B, BGSOUND, BLOCKQUOTE, CENTER, CITE, CODE, EMBED, FONT, I, IFRAME, IMG, LI, OL, PRE, U, UL

Using HTML
We don't yet have a tuturial for HTML tags, but there is a wealth of resources available online. This site has a great list of actively recognized HTML tags.

Changing how your page looks
There are 3 ways to change how your page looks.

1) Choose a new template

2) Modify the HTML in your template

3) Add custom CSS styles to override template styles

Templates
Templates are HTML layouts, with special NEWBLOG tags, that define your page layout.

When you first sign up, you are assigned the Default template. You can choose others by going to the Template Edit page (from Edit my Account).

You can modify any of the templates as much as you wish, but the NEWBLOG tags must stay intact, or certain things might not appear on your page, such as your bio, your articles, or your friends.

You can choose a new template and publish it from the Template Edit page to reset any customization.

By default, only 20 friends are listed on a profile. Use the Max Friends tag (see the Template FAQ) for this code. You can paste this code anywhere in your template, or in the Custom CSS area (see Custom CSS below) on the Template Edit page.

Click here for the Template FAQ by Kamon.

Custom CSS
You can override the default template's CSS stle by pasting your own style in the Custom CSS area on the Template Edit page.

Below is the standard code for the Default template's CSS style. You can use this as a basis for creating your own custom CSS style for the Default template.

If you modify this CSS, paste it in the "Custom CSS" area on the Template Edit page, and it will stay intact, even if you re-publish.

Submitting Your Templates to NewBlog.com
If you've created a template you'd like to submit for general use on NewBog, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Pick a brief, unused name for the template - with no spaces or punctuation except for underscores. Example: "strange_green", or "purple_haze".
  • Images used in the template will be uploaded to http://www.newblog.com/templates/your template name/images.
  • Make sure all image and CSS references in your template look for the files in the above locations.
  • CSS files used in the template will be uploaded to http://www.newblog.com/templates/stylesheet.css.
  • Name your template file "template.html"
  • Please zip all needed images, CSS includes, and the template.html file itself, and send to scott@ripside.com.
